Most everyone has known or knows the sex crazed guy who never grows up, says the wrong things at the wrong time and never realizes how embarrassing his behavior would be to normal human beings. Meet Harry McGlade, male chauvinist pig extraordinaire. I knew harry from the excellent Jack Daniels series by J A Konrath. But this is the first time I've experienced him in his full glory. Be forewarned, do not read this book if you have intestinal problems. I laughed so hard my sides hurt, and that was only in the first few pages. But the end of the short book, my wife was concerned that I had hurt myself as I was doubled over holding my my stomach with tears rolling down my cheeks. It is THAT funny. Prudes or the politically correct should not venture here though. It would be injurious to your mental health. All other healthy, non-humor impaired readers should give it a read.

Having heard that a novella length McGlade story was in the works (especially since Konrath has said several times that he couldn't see McGlade in anything but short stories), this was a no sample needed purchase for me. I've been a follower of the insensitive cad P.I. who is Harry McGlade since his romantic interlude with a certain dead corpse, bicycle pump and casket that had me cackling with laughter long after the story had concluded.
Having said that, "Babe on Board" (originally titled "Jailbait") while having some of the crass charm of previous McGlade adventures falls considerably short in terms of laughs. There are some witty one-liners, and other trademarks of the McGlade series, but nothing at least for me that made a lasting impression. Additionally, there has been an attempt to "flesh-out" the character of McGlade and introduce an event that has a life changing effect on our blundering hero. While I am all for fleshing out characters, the event for me didn't...Read more

Poignant, Funny, and yes, Harry McGlade,

McGlade may be my fave Konrath character for a variety of reasons. He has no censor between thought and speech. Total hedonism. Completely offensive. But every now and then, McGlade lets something slip through that makes him a real and unforgettable character. His heart.
This is a wonderful story by Konrath and Peterson. As for Konrath....I'm familiar with his work. Peterson, I've read this and A Wild Night is Calling. I happen to know she wrote the Tangi character, and let me tell you, she more than holds her own.
If you love Jack Daniels, if you love Konrath, and especially if you love Harry McGlade, JAILBAIT is an automatic buy.
I can't wait for their collaborative novel FLEE!
