This review is from: Barron's GRE Psychology (Barron's How to Prepare for the Gre Psychology Graduate Record Examination in Psychology) (Paperback) Barrons should only be used if you have already studied material from Kaplans and the Princeton Review guide. I bought as many GRe psychology guides as I could to make sure I studied everything, Barron sonly helped to verify I knew everything and maybe gave me some more topics to study, but I would not recommend this guide. Use it only if you have used all of the other books and want to make sure you study as much as you can to be really well prepared for the test. Good luck! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Barron's GRE Psychology (Barron's How to Prepare for the Gre Psychology Graduate Record Examination in Psychology) (Paperback) I really wanted to like this book, given the usefulness of Barron's General GRE book. However, this book fell far short of my expectations. For every section it says, "Be sure to have your intro books handy for review." I don't see the point in buying a book that tells me to read other books. On the other hand, the practice tests are useful if you have the time to run through all of them. My suggestion is to make this book the last one on your list of study aids. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) It lists terms and key figures with which/whom you should be familiar, but it doesn't give information about most of them. If you have forgotten these names since you took the pertinent course, you're out of luck. However, it frequently reiterates that you should be reviewing alongside a "good" intro psych book. If you do, in fact, have a good intro book, you actually don't need the Barron's book. You already have all the information the review book provides, plus the important details that the review book lacks.
For testing information, the introduction is confusing and somewhat misleading. For example, you are encouraged to answer as many questions as possible, even if guessing is required (as is necessary on the computer-based general GRE exam, which you have probably already taken and have come to expect). However, credit is taken off for...Read more |
