Product Description
This manual's new edition offers prospective graduate students intensive preparation for the GRE Graduate Record Exam. Opening chapters provide a perspective on the exam with a GRE overview, advice on effective test-taking tactics, and a diagnostic test to help students pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses. Subsequent chapters review all GRE test areas and include practice exercises for the following topics: antonym, analogy, and sentence-completion questions, reading comprehension, vocabulary, analytical writing, discrete quantitative questions, quantitative comparison questions, data interpretation questions, and math. The math review includes questions in arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. The manual's concluding section presents five full-length model exams that reflect recent GREs in length, question types, and degree of difficulty. All questions are answered and explained. The book comes with an enclosed CD-ROM that presents two brand-new computer-adaptive model GREs. The computer-adaptive tests (or CATs) simulate actual test-taking conditions, and provide automatic scoring, as well as answers and explanations for all questions.
Comment: This book has been extremely helpful in studying for the GRE. I did the research and the claim is correct. The Barron's Gre Study guide is the best overall study guide for the GRE.

Comment: I used a variety of GRE prep materials prior to taking the test (which I just took this morning) and I liked the Barron's book a lot. It was very straightforward and clearly written. I especially liked the large number of practice problems and tests. My book had a Diagnostic Test and two Model Tests (I have no idea what the difference is, if anything) plus the CD which had two more full-length tests. There were detailed explanations to all of the problems on the practice tests as well as practice problems. I also used the Princeton Review book, which I also highly recommend. The main advantage, in my opinion, to the Barron's book are the practice tests. Between the two books I had enough that I could take one every 10 days or so and see my scores improve as I got more familiar and comfortable with the test.

Summary: CD won't work 2010-07-24
Comment: I have yet to take the GRE test but have gone through the entire book as preparation. So far I'be been impressed with the explanations given and the amount of practice problems. However, I paid for a book with a CD-Rom so that I could take the 2 full practice tests. I checked my computer's system requirements (it's 6 months old) and they say its compatible. But when I put the CD in it opens the home screen but there aren't any buttons to push to precede from there. I've tried everything and I still can't get it to open in order to take the practice tests!

Comment: The biggest problem is that there are no sample essays given for any of the analytical writing practice questions - it just says "there are no 'correct' answers for this section", which is a complete cop-out. They couldn't hire someone to write good, mediocre, and bad essays? Also, it's not helpful to have a separate sheet with answer bubbles, because the actual test will have answer bubbles under each question. I like Princeton Review's book much better.

Comment: Hi, I decided to purchase this product because of some other customer's reviews. I would like to mention that the Math part is really easy to understand, all concepts are well explained, it has a lot of examples with their solutions. The book shows a lot of tips that can help speed your responses. I am a spanish speaker student so at the beginning with other text it was kind of hard to understand what was the terms about but the way this book explain concepts and problems was really easy to figure out what was it about. I do recommend you all to purchase this book MAINLY to review the math you need to take the GRE.
