I am a private math tutor and author of Math Study Guide for the SAT, ACT and SAT Subject Tests: 2012 Edition. I like to use the practice tests in this book as a warm up for students and then follow it with the official practice tests found in The Real ACT Prep Guide: The Only Guide to Include 3Real ACT Tests. However I found two errors in the first practice test:

pg 433 problem 39. The answer is 5 times the square root of 29. This is answer choice C, not H.

pg 441 problem 58. The answer is -12/5. This does not match any of the answer choices.

I took the instructor's course for the PRINCETON REVIEW SAT and found out how excellent and thorough their materials are. I've taught SAT prep at a prep school here in Connecticut and had private students. A friend recently asked if I'd tutor her son for the ACT, so purchased this book to teach him the non-math sections. I love the explanations in this book. They know how to explain it clearly to kids about how to think about the test and the questions.

What's helpful for students and parents to understand about the reading tests on the ACT is that on real tests in school teachers want to provide good answers for you to choose from because you've memorized the material and just have to identify the right answer when you see it--it's more a test of did you learn the material?

Because the reading tests on the ACT Test don't rely on your memory or knowledge base, but can you find the answer in a passage, they give you lousy answers, deceptive answers--sometimes...Read more

I am an Associate Professor of Mathematics, SAT and ACT Math tutor, and author of the book "The 32 Most Effective SAT Math Strategies." I also tutor the Science section of the ACT. I use content from this book as an additional source when tutoring for the ACT and am satisfied with it. Make sure that you also have "The Real ACT Prep Guide," since it is the only book with actual ACTs. When I tutor for the ACT I generally have my students do 5 practice tests (including the 3 from the Real ACT Prep Guide and the free one you should be able to pick up at your guidance counselor's office). In addition I use material from the Princeton Review book for additional practice (done in class and for homework, but not under timed conditions). This amount of preparation is more than sufficient for a substantial improvement to your score. It is important however to be implementing the correct strategies as you prepare. The Science section in particular can be a bit tricky since your time must be used...Read more
