This review is from: Cracking the AP Economics Macro & Micro Exams, 2011 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback) As much as I hate giving low ratings, which viscously skew the overall rating, this book just doesn't quite deserve five stars. Intending to self study AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics, I bought this prep book, along with Mankiw, to more or less teach me all of AP Economics. I analyzed this book for weeks, and in the end I had accumulated a forty page (typed!) outline. So there, nobody can say I didn't give it a fair chance. About a week before the AP exams, I had a panic attack and ran out and bought 5 Steps to a Five for AP Economics. It was clearly superior to Princeton Review, being much more neatly organized and having better explanations, as well as emphasizing the more important concepts more clearly.
But hey, don't get me wrong! Princeton Review had all of the concepts in it; they just weren't as well presented. In fact, I more than likely learned most of what was needed for the exam by outlining Princeton Review. From start to finish, having no prior experience with the material, it took me 3 weeks. I found this book filled in a lot of the gaps that the Mankiw book had, so I plan to use this book as my primary text for my upcoming macro CLEP exam. I'd like to point out that flipping through this book, the sections line up nearly word-for-word with the syllabus that's on the official CollegeBoard exam website. Between the succinctness of the material presented and the practice tests (GREAT resource), I can highly recommend this book. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cracking the AP Economics Macro & Micro Exams, 2011 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback) I bought this book to self study the AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics exams. Everything that I needed was in the book, but it just wasn't presented well. In this book, PR oversimplifies it - they explain everything as if the person reading it is mentally challenged. I would recommend Barron's or 5 Steps to a 5 if you are self studying or have a horrible teacher, but this is certainly better than nothing. |
