Foundations for Grammar,

This review is from: Grammar Workbook for the SAT, ACT, and More (Paperback)
This book is built on the premise that students remember little of the grammar that may have been taught to them and, therefore, it establishes a foundation. It then builds toward the specifics that one might find on ACTs and SATs.
I have been teaching for 35 years and have never found a "perfect" textbook, but the grammar in this book is not only useful for the short answer portions of the exams, it is useful for practical application on the ESSAY portions as well.
Formal grammar is difficult, and students often need a teacher/tutor to explain the fine points, but generally my students have found this book to be user friendly and very helpful. I even know students who have recommended this book to friends who do not have tutors for the exams.
This is the best "crash course" in grammar out there.

I took the test without reading this book and scored only a 320 on the writing section and after reading this book I scored a 540! I increased my score by 200 points! This book is all you need to score well on the SAT, it's for anyone who's taking the test just from bare knowledge and doesn't remember grammar. But this book will definitely take you back to when you did remember and then some by giving you the 20 most rules or Pitt falls you forgot or will get tripped up on during the test. You pretty much got the grammar section of the SAT down if you know this book.
