Comment: Excellent resource. I had no idea what to expect but was very pleased with the purchase. It was very clearly written and made the process very transparent - particularly the chapter on diversity.

Comment: THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THE "NEW" ROTC.
GLOSSARY OF TERMS:
1. ROTC RECRUITER - a highly skilled, professionally trained SALESMAN, often a Field Grade Officer, above the rank of Major, to attract your trust and confidence.
2. SCHOLARSHIP - a "BAIT AND SWITCH" euphemism for a "strings attached," provisional loan, with the highest interest rates allowed by law.
3. LIMITED NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS - a NEGATIVE SALES PLOY based on the psycholgical principal of "The Fear of Rejection," usually couched in terms of: "If you're accepted. . .," "I only have four left;" and other terms designed to make you think you may not get one now unless you act immediately before someone else gets it.
4. DISENROLLMENT - if, for any reason, you withdraw from school, or the ROTC Program, your transcripts will be frozen. You will not be allowed to continue your education, or enlist in a service, until the DEBT, you did not know was a Debt, is satisfied. You will be in LIMBO.
5. If you do not pay them the FULL AMOUNT of the Scholarship within 30 days of their notice, you will be assessed interest, administrative charges, and penalties, which means an additional 6% per annum on the unpaid balance.
PARENTS: C. W. Brewer's book is a sales tool designed to make you believe that ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS are difficult to obtain. Nothing could be further from the truth. Actually, ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS are available without much difficulty at all. And why not? If for any reason, your son or daughter wishes to withdraw from the ROTC Program, he or she has only two options: 1. Pay back all Scholarship monies (read "LOAN") at the highest rate of interest allowed by law; or 2. Enter active Military Duty, on their terms, and have the monies deducted from their pay until the debt is satisfied.
IMPORTANT: If you are between the ages of 18 to 22:
1. DO NOT talk to a Recuiter/Salesman out of the presence of your parents, UNDER ANY AND ALL CIRCUSTANCES. Think about how wolves separate the young and helpless prey from the protection of the herd. SAME PRINCIPLES APPLY HERE!
2. DO NOT sign any contracts without first talking to a lawyer or, at worst, taking 24 hours to read and fully understand all that the contract contains, particularly what will be required of you should you, for any reason, at some later date, find that the ROTC is not for you. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS, especially about consequences of withdrawing from ROTC.
3. Be absolutely certain that you are given copies to keep of everything you sign and THAT YOU AND YOUR RECRUITER initial every page so as to avoid the possibility of seeing your contract, at some later date, with unfamiliar additional pages when you may be given the unwanted title of DISENROLLEE/DEAD BEAT-EE!
4. REMEMBER: The SCHOLARSHIP/LOAN does not provide for ROOM & BOARD, the most expensive portion of College Expense. Unless you are commuting to school, failure to come up with this end of the College experience, will put you in the "DILEMMA BOX."
Lastly, if this is a direction in which financial considerations are forcing you to take, and you see no other way out, join the National Guard.
