If all you want to do is skim through some basic stuff to sort of prime yourself or gently refresh your memory, this might do it for you.
It seems generally inadequate. It's frustrating that there aren't better resources to study for this test. So far the only decent thing I've found is the practice test on the ETS website.

EDIT: That's how I felt the night before I took the exam. Now that I've taken it, I can tell you that the best preparation for this test is to take courses in Research Methods, Developmental Psych, Social Psych, Cognitive Psych, Physiological Psych, Abnormal Psych, and History of Psych. Once you've done most of that, this book is actually a pretty good refresher. I was skeptical, but I would say most of the material on the exam was covered in the book. Or that's how it seemed. You would also do well to start studying more than three days before the exam. Aye, cross your fingers for me.

I would say that it needs more content. There are...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful--Especially for a Psychology Major, December 10, 2010

I procrastinated studying for this test until the week before, even though I had this book on my shelf. I had used Kaplan's GRE study book for the GRE General test, so I had high hopes for this book's ability to prepare me.

The book contains three sections. The first section is about the test format and scoring, the second is a discussion of many topics in psychology, and the third consists of practice tests with answer keys. There is also a glossary in the back and a note for international students.

The second section reads like a really in-depth Introduction to Psychology textbook. The entire section is 263 pages and contains chapters on social psychology; developmental psychology; personality and abnormal psychology; physiological psychology; sensation and perception; learning and ethology; cognitive psychology; and research design, statistics, tests, and measures. As a psychology major, it was extremely helpful at refreshing my memory on topics I had already...Read more

I literally just took the GRE Psychology Subject test yesterday. Had I known that the Kaplan GRE review book would NOT prepare me for the test, I would've thought twice before buying this book. I studied it back and front and knew almost everything inside that book pre-test day. I took the 2 practice tests in the book as well, thinking that they would be a true representation of the actual test. I am not saying I thought that the questions would be the same, but at least the same "type" of questions. Not at all. Not only were the questions about 100 times more difficult than the Kaplan practice tests, over half of them weren't even representative of what was in the book! I would've been better off taking out my old psychology text books, dusting them off, and studying these in depth. For someone who has graduated over 7 years ago from college, there is no way I would've remembered everything from my college psychology classes. Not only that, but the GRE Subject test did not even exist...Read more
