Very helpful! Informally written and well-organized. This book sorts the info in manageable info-bytes blocks that prepare you well for the test structure and content. The book has initial partial-length tests and final full-length tests, which provide a good measure of preparedness for the test-taker. Highly recommended.

Comment: I haven't yet taken the MAT, but I am hopeful that this book will be the preparation I need to get a good score. I really like the layout and all of the practice tests with the explanations.

Summary: Really helped 2008-07-28
Comment: I ordered this to help me study. I applied to grad school at the last minute and had 2 1/2 weeks to study for the test. I had it fast shipped so I had 2 weeks to cram. This was a great book. It not only gave the correct answer, but told why as well. It had multiple tests to do and word lists. I did great and got into grad school.

Though I wanted to add a SPED endorsement to my teaching certificate, a Master in SPED program came across my path, so I had less than a month's notice to take the MAT. Not only did Amazon get the book to me quickly, but the book itself was SO EASY to use. After doing the pre-test, I looked over some of the study material, but realized that I would not be able to absorb all of that information, so I just took the other 7 tests. It was actually FUN to read how the analogies were made. I've never considered myself exceptionally good at analogies, so to see an improvement of over 15 percentile using the practice tests was encouraging.
Then came the day of the test. I felt prepared and set a personal goal for myself based on my testing scores. Though some of the test was difficult, I left with confidence that I had done my best. When my score came back, I was DELIGHTED! I had blown through my personal goal by 8 percentage points!!! I know that the study guide gave me that advantage!
If you are paying to take the test and giving up that hour of your life, spend the money and the time, about eight hours, preparing for it.

Summary: I Aced the MAT 2008-05-03
Comment: Ok, I usually do not review my purchases, but I have been out of college since 1995 and decided to finally go to grad school. I knew I'd need some serious review so I researched many study guides. This guide gives a thorough review of everything that you need to know. There were actual items on my MAT that were in this book. I was so nervous about taking this type of test when I got this book, but after studying it, I found that it was like a game trying to beat my practice scores. I scored in the 95th percentile. I do not think I would have scored so well without this guide. If it can help me, it can help anyone!
