Summary: A good guide for prospective graduate students 2007-11-01
Comment: I would like, first of all, to tell you that I respect Amazon.com for being sincere enough to give me the opportunity to review this book without any reservations. The book, though not excellent, is a good guide to give you general information on how to understand the needs of the graduate admissions people who will evaluate your personal statement.
It is also nice that the book includes additional information on interviewing and recommendation letters that may help you further during the process. The price of the book is reasonable and it is value for money. However, the only drawback is that the book takes a large number of pages for presenting sample essays that are limited to only three majors which are Medicine, Law and Business.
Overall, if you are confused about writing your personal statement for the first time, this guide will be helful to give you enough confidence.

Summary: Waste of Money and Time - Don't Buy This Book! 2006-05-08
Comment: I purchased this book without looking through it first and am extremely disappointed. While it did provide some good advice on what not to include in a personal statement, the sample essays provided seemed trivial and senseless. Also, the book seems to be written for kids still in college and recent grads, and focuses mostly on medical and law school admissions. It totally ignores working adults and people seeking admission into other graduate programs, such as human services and education. The time I wasted reading this book could have been better spent actually writing my own admissions essay!

Summary: Not Worth Giving Away 2004-11-12
Comment: I just glanced at one essay in this book and I found horrible grammatical errors such as failing to Capitilize the name of a university. I'm glad I didn't buy it and hope no one else does either.
