This review is from: PRAXIS PLT Test Grades 7-12 (REA) - Principles of Learning and Teaching Test, The Best Teachers' Test Preparation for PRAXIS PLT (Test Preps) 2nd Edition (Paperback)
I think that this book really helped me study for the PLT Exam. The first half of the book reviews the basic information you need to pass the test which was a lot easier than rereading all my text books. I found the sample answers to the essay portion of practice test to be very helpful in knowing what kind of essays to write. Plus ETS has taken enough of my money through out my educational career and I don't want to give them any more than I have to.

I think it has some great advice for new teachers, but it is way off the mark as far as preparing someone for the PLT. Sadly, I have to take the PLT a second time, and the case studies in this book are nothing like what is on the real PLT. On the practice tests, it has you write an essay, but on the PLT, you have two parts for each question. A big difference between this book and the PLT is that with this book, you don't realy need to read the scenario to answer the case study questions. Some of the case studies seem like short stories with a happy ending. The multiple choice questions were OK, but a lot of them are based on information in the book, not PLT. Again, I thought it had some good information as far as helping a new teacher, but the two practice tests are nothing like what I saw the first time I took the PLT.
Good info, but test format is out of date,

The two most important sections of this book are the content chapters and the practice tests. The chapters summarize all of the information you need to know to do well on the Praxis PLT 7-12. These chapters were really useful for refreshing what I had learned in my education classes.
The practice tests were also useful for judging how well I knew the material. However, the test format described in the book and used in the practice tests was out of date. When I took the test (fall of 2011), we had 70 multiple choice questions and two case studies, each with two essay questions (4 essays total). The book said we would have 24 multiple choice and four case studies with three essays each (12 essays total). Of course, I was pleased that the actual test was easier than what I was expecting, but it is still good to know.
